Well, as stated, I’m not really sure what to say about the performance (lack thereof) my Cats put on against Vanderbilt. Since there were so many horrid things that popped out at me during the game, I’ll just compare it to a feeling I experienced about ohh, say 16 years ago.

I was sitting on my cousins couch, some call him K-Mac, his name is Keith. He’s got a son named Brett that’s about 4 years younger than me and we grew up together only to be seperated by the governments relocation of my mothers job to Huntsville, AL (current residence). Anyway, we were watching a certain game played between the University of Kentucky and a team named dUKe. We all know what happened (or atleast those that will be reading this) and it was not pleasurable.

Do my fellow Kentucky fans remember where they were and the feelings they felt at that moment in history? Well, I do, and I had hoped to never have to experience that again. But for some reason as I watched my boys, my first love, the Kentucky Wildcats get completely dismantled, torn limb from limb, embarassed, these fellings returned. I couldn’t believe it. The only thing that made it worse, was having to explain to my fiance’ why I wasn’t happy at all and didn’t feeling like snuggling after the game.

I really don’t want to go into detail about the game because as a Cats fan, there is nothing positive to talk about except the fact the starting score of our next game is 0-0. So I will transition this post to my latest thought about how most (remember I said most) women don’t understand why some sporting events affect men so much.

First, let me just say that I love Meghan (my fiance’) to death. She’s a great girl and I wouldn’t trade her for the world, nor would I do anything to jeopardize our relationship. But she just didn’t understand why I got so upset over a basketball game last night. There is an explanation.

That was not just a basketball game. That was a basketball game where I watched the sports team that controls the possession clock in my bodies sports library get embarassed and whipped. They essentially just got whipped by a school that I don’t like too much. It’s a school with a bunch of smart, rich kids that I could crush with one finger. But they act like they’re sh– doesn’t stink 24-7 and it’s worse when they’re sports teams beat you. The only good thing about that school is I have a really smart cousin in Law School there. He’s cool. He got to meet Mitt Romney last week too, which is really cool. Too bad more than half of America is incompetent and thinks John McLame would make a better President causing Mitt to make a logical decision to drop out. Anyway, that’s another subject!

Sometimes women just dont’ understand. And I hope Meghan gets used to it, because about 7 months ago I asked her a question and put a glowing rock on her finger and she said “YES” and with that she got it all baby. That includes the piece of me that can’t stand to watch my Cat’s get toasted in Basketball. Football, that’s a different story. I’ve been watching that for years and have learned to accept that. But between the months of November and March, it’s a completely different story. If she didn’t know before last night, now she knows!

Well, what do I say about my Cats as I sit here with a smile on my face a mile wide! Kentucky finally plays 40 tough minutes and it pays off against a good team.

You look on paper and Kentucky is just simply outmatched in this game, but this is why they play the games. I have quite a few factors that go into the Cats winning this game tonight.

First, Kentucky is finally at full strenth health-wise. Jodie Meeks and Derrick Jasper both played tonight and looked like themselves for the first true game this season. Second, I think Ramel ”Smooth” Bradley is finally learning how to lead. If nothing else, shooting 100% from the charity strike says enough. Especially making 8-8 down the stretch. Third, I finally saw the good guys smiling tonight which says a few things…happiness, confidence, and believing! With those 3 attributes, this Kentucky team can be tough down the stretch and make a run.

All in all, Kentucky hit shots when it had too tonight and they REBOUNDED THE BASKETBALL!!! Thank God they finally learned how to rebound. I believe Coach Gillispie is finally getting through to these guys. Patterson is tough, Jasper, a guard, at 6’6 is a huge mis-match for anybody on the schedule, and my distant cousin Perry Stevenson is finally playing with some toughness. That’s good, because it’s been really hard to watch a 6’9 guy that shares the great name struggle and not be aggressive. Come on Perry, do our good name some justice!

In a game where I was sure Kentucky would turn the ball over 28 times, they managed to take care of the rock and hold that number under 15. That is amazing considering how they haven’t done so all year. Tennessee is known for their tough full-court pressure, so this should be a big confidence booster for the Cats.

As great as it was to send Bruce Pearl and his butt-hole orange Jacket back to Knoxville with only their 2nd loss of the season, it’s only one win and the Cats are still under .500 for the season. But I would rather see them playing tough now, than faltering like they were a few months back. As my UTard buddy makes comments about Gardner Webb and UAB as I send him a celebratory text message, I remind him that he didn’t even know that UT was playing basketball tonight and he confesses (pathetic).

Stay tuned for my follow up tomorrow about the difference between UK sports fans and UT sports fans.

As for now, enjoy the W and savor the smile that Coach Gillispie had on his face tonight as if to say, “Bruce Pearl, shut your mouth punk ass! You got nothing on this. And if you plan on staying at UT, get used to losing in this arena!” Haha, it doesn’t get any better! Be proud Bluebloods, because tonight we knocked off the giant. Go Cats!

UK – 72 UT – 66

The media had everything in line for two weeks of the proverbial wet-dream of football hyping proportions. But Brett Favre stuck a rod in their rear as quickly as they carried him to the top of spectacle. The Packers lost to the Giants in overtime 23-20 last night as Favre threw 2 interceptions at critical times to help send Jr. Manning and faceless Tom Coughlin (the man had to have lost his face the way he looked in subzero weather last night) to the Super Bowl in Arizona.

Even though Favre took that ride to the peak once again, the media was unable to knock him down because evidently he decides when he comes down(see Websters Dictionary – Retirement). As reporters bombarded Favre with questions about his potential of retiring after the game, he deflected them saying he hasn’t made a definitive decision yet which means…he will be back next year. I would be willing to put good money on that if anyone wants to take me up on it. Lets open the line at 5-2.

So this leaves us with a Giants-Patriots Super Bowl. Great we get to watch the Pats win their 19th game this season. I know most of you are saying at least we get to see some good commercials, but I’m rooting for something a little more interesting. You see, I’m a True Blue Kentucky fan. For those of you that haven’t caught my drift yet, the Giants have a backup QB that weighs more than most of O-line. The hefty-lefty, the Pilsbury Throwboy, the Battleship Lorenzen, the one and only J-Lo (well there is another one, but the only thing she can throw is her ass)…Jared Lorenzen. I’m not a big Eli Manning fan, but I don’t hate him either. But it’s just unfortunate for him that he has such a wonderful overlooked (I realize it’s hard to overlook him) talent playing behind him in the former UK great, Lorenzen.

Maybe Eli will get hurt in practice and the Giants will name Lorenzen the starter and he leads them to victory. If that happens, I know one stat that won’t show up in the books for the Pats…sacks! Trust me I watched this guy play for 4 years and he’s nearly impossible to take down. Now he does know how to throw some ints, but none of the Pats will be wearing Florida jerseys so I think he’ll be OK.

I know this is a stretch, but wouldn’t it be a joy to see the former UK Standout QB icon lead his team to the Super Bowl. I mean the Big Blue Nation needs something like this after the bust known as Tim Couch a few years ago. Let’s just hope J-Lo doesn’t test positive for HGH afterwords and embarass the us! No chance of that, unless there’s a form of HGH found in Jello Pudding!
